When to Consider a Botox® Touch-up
An experienced practitioner can work magic with Botox®, smoothing dynamic wrinkles away, but it doesn’t last forever. If you want to maintain the look, you’ll need to make regularly scheduled appointments.
SLENT, or South Louisiana Ear, Nose, Throat & Facial Plastics, has locations in Mandeville, Hammond, and Slidell, Louisiana. We offer Botox injections and touch-ups to keep you looking as young as you feel!
How Botox works
Botox has become a household name as the most common injectable on the market. The concept is simple: purified neurotoxin onabotulinumtoxinA is injected into tiny muscles under the skin, temporarily paralyzing them.
This prevents your skin from creasing into dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and forehead lines. Combined with dermal fillers, you can correct minor wrinkles for months at a time — without the need for surgery or downtime. However, eventually you’ll need a touch-up. Here’s how to recognize when your wrinkles are beginning to creep back in.
Signs you need a touch-up
Typically, the results of your Botox injections will appear within a few days and last for about three months. Wearing sunscreen and sunglasses can prolong your results, but your wrinkles will begin reforming if you don’t receive additional injections.
It can take time to find a regimen that works for you, but here are some signs that it’s time to schedule your next touch-up:
- Your skin is beginning to fold back into familiar creases, which deepen into wrinkles
- People have been asking if you’re tired, sick, or stressed
- Your results don’t seem as noticeable as before
- Your wrinkles are the first thing you notice in the mirror, even during passing glances
- Your skin remains creased for a time after making certain expressions, such as squinting
A few days after your Botox session, take a photo of your results. This will give you a reference to look back on and help your practitioner achieve the same effect during your future touch-up. If there’s anything you’d like done differently, feel free to bring it up during your visit.
If you’ve recently received Botox for the first time, don’t worry if your results aren’t immediately evident. It can take a few days for your wrinkles to relax, and most injectors are cautious with new patients. When it comes to injectables, it’s better to use a light touch than a heavy hand.
Two weeks after your first appointment, you can return and ask for adjustments. It can take a few tries to achieve your desired effect, but these first few visits will set the baseline for your future Botox regimen.
